I would start with a threat model, then add layered controls for identity, network access, encryption, logging, and monitoring. A strong answer shows that I think about least privilege, blast-radius reduction, and secure defaults from the beginning rather than bolting security on later.

I would grant only the permissions required for a specific role, service, or workload and avoid broad wildcards unless there is a clear reason. Then I would review policies regularly, use role-based access where possible, and remove unused permissions to keep access tight over time.

I would use a managed key service, rotate keys according to policy, limit who can administer them, and log all key usage. I would also separate key management from application access so no single compromise exposes both the data and the key path.

I would encrypt data at rest with strong managed encryption and use TLS for data in transit. The important part is not just enabling encryption, but also making sure keys, certificates, and trust boundaries are managed correctly so the protection remains effective.

I would contain the incident first, preserve evidence, and identify the affected resources and credentials. Then I would remediate the root cause, verify recovery, and document what happened so monitoring and response can improve next time. Incident response is as much about disciplined process as it is about technical remediation.
